Construction Accidents on the Rise

New York City has seen an unusually high number of fatal construction accidents this year.  According to a recent article in The New York Times, eight construction-related fatalities have been reported so far this year—as many as were reported in all of 2014 and more than twice the number reported in 2013.   Non-fatal accidents have also risen dramatically over recent years, up 24% from 2013 to 2014, according to the most recent data from the city’s Buildings Department.  Despite the labor laws and safety measures in place, construction workers face a greater risk of work-related accidents than employees in nearly every other U.S. industry.  Under New York law, any employee injured on the job is eligible to receive workers’ compensation.
