Nicole Abruzzo Hemrick of the Spar & Bernstein Law Firm was recently named by Super Lawyers as one of the Top Women Attorneys in New York Metro for 2015.

New York, NY (November 2, 2015) – The Law Office of Spar & Bernstein announced recently that immigration attorney, Nicole Abruzzo Hemrick, was selected by Super Lawyers as one of the 2015 Top Women Attorneys in the New York Metro area. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

“I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least, when I found out about receiving this award,” said Ms. Hemrick. “I just do what I love every day, so to be recognized for doing that is quite humbling.”

Earlier this year, she was also named a Super Lawyers Rising Star, a distinction given to up-and-coming attorneys under the age of 40. No more than 2.5 percent of attorneys throughout the state are named to the list annually.

Every year, Super Lawyers recognizes the top lawyers in the New York Metro area. These attorneys are selected based on peer evaluation, independent research, and peer nomination. Those New York Metro lawyers who receive the highest point totals during the nomination, research and peer review process are further recognized in New York Metro Super Lawyers Top Lists.

“I have a passion for immigration law because I can relate to the immigrant experience as I moved back and forth from Italy to the US as a child.  I am fascinated by my clients’ stories and find it rewarding to assist with all kinds of immigration cases, whether family-based, employment-based or removal defense,” said Ms. Hemrick.

Ms. Hemrick graduated from St. John’s University School of Law in 2007. She served as a law clerk in immigration courts — first as an intern in New Jersey, then in paid positions in Arizona and New York — assisting judges in rendering written decisions. This perspective has proven invaluable, providing important insight into how the system works, as well as how immigration judges think. Her clients get the benefit of that insight every day. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience fighting for those who have been persecuted, whether for their political beliefs, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
