Brad gives a breakdown of what will cost more and what will cost less. (07:04) NBA players took a knee during the national anthem as the NBA season resumed. Players wore shirts that said “Black Lives Matter” and some players replaced their names on the back of their jerseys that had messages such as “Equality”, "I am a man”,  and “Say her name”. (11:56) According to Johns Hopkins University, there are now over 17.4 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide along with over 675,00 people who have died from the novel coronavirus. In the U.S., over 4.5 million cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed, and the country has over 152,000 deaths from the virus. A new study published in the journal Nature has revealed that some people who have not had COVID-19 may already have some immunity to the virus. Another study published by JAMA pediatrics claims that children between 5 and 10 have 100 times more genetic material from COVID-19 in their noses compared to older children and adults. (12:47) Infectious-disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and two other top administration health officials testified before a House panel about the ongoing Coronavirus crisis. Dr. Fauci said that he was optimistic that a safe and effective vaccine would be possible this year. The vaccine would be free of charge, but they would not be able to get it to everyone by the end of 2021. Representative Jim Jordan and Fauci engaged in a contentious debate on whether protests helped lead to the spread of the virus, further politicizing the issue. James Clyburn, chairman of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, declared that the U.S. is in the midst of a “Public health catastrophe” and demanded a comprehensive national plan. Brad also discusses Trump’s sub par handling of the ongoing pandemic. (16:32) Tropical storm Isaias hit Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The tropical storm then morphed into a hurricane and battered the Bahamas and eastern Florida. Isias is the earliest hurricane/storm from the Atlantic Ocean to begin with an “I”. The previous record was set on August 7th, 2005. (17:42) Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga both lead the 2020 MTV VMA's in nominations, with both singers receiving nine nominations each. In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards show introduced new categories such as “Best Music Video From Home” and “Best Quarantine Performance”. (18:26) Beyonce’s visual album “Black Is King” was released on Disney+, featuring a star studded cast that includes her daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, Pharrell Williams, Kelly Rowland, and Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles-Larson appear in the visual album. Black is King "reimagines the lessons of 'The Lion King' for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns." (20:43) According to the consumer goods company, Unilever, the pandemic has seen an increase in ice cream sales and a decrease in deodorant sales. Brands like Dove and Axe have seen a decrease in sales since the lockdown. At the same time, brands such as Ben and Jerry’s, Breyer’s and Magnum have seen an increase in sales.
