The Trump administration is reportedly planning to introduce a travel ban on over 40 countries, including Cuba and Venezuela.
This means that players from Major League Baseball (MLB) and minor leagues with P-1 visas may not be able to enter or re-enter the United States after participating in international games in Canada, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic.
Cuban and Venezuelan athletes are gaining popularity in the last two decades. On Opening Day 2024 alone, there were 18 Cubans and 58 Venezuelan players.
In broader terms, the ban would mean separation of families, damage to the U.S. economy, and a hit to the country’s reputation.
Brad Bernstein, Managing Partner at The Law Offices of Spar & Bernstein, featured on axios.com, shared his thoughts on the potential impact of the ban on Instagram.
He explained there are still many uncertainties around the potential ban, the countries to be affected, the applicable exceptions, and whether it would affect foreign nationals from these countries who are married to U.S. citizens.
